The only reason I am rating this book with 4 stars as opposed to 5 is due to the oversaturation of examples and illustrations. I'm all for demonstrating truths but it got to the point where I sighed every time another example was brought up and skimmed until the example was concluded but... that is my only caveat! Excellent book and surely worth reading!

I found this book on Amazon and ordered it to meet the reading requirement for an upper-level journalism and media studies course at college. It is full of ideas on how to connect with potential customers/donors online. I’m finding it a great resource as I prepare to write a PR campaign for a local nonprofit.

When I purchased that book, I was looking for something written in clear English and without complicated words. I am learning English and at the same time I am a marketer, so I need to be familiarized with the terminology in my professional field. That book is really good for that. As the author would say "a niche for people who need to learn the marketing terms in English".
Actually, I am writing this review due to the tips that I found in it.
For me, It's not a brilliant book but if you never have used Twitter, Facebook or even you don't know what it means "marketing", you should read it.

  Bought this book because it was already popular, a behavior predicted early in the book itself. Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s well written, witty, very energetic, and thoroughly researched. I’d share it on my Twitter feed if I had more than eight followers. (The good news from Thompson is that I’m not alone.)

I loved reading this book - the whole time I was reading it, I kept telling everyone around me how great it was. There are a lot of established principles and studies in this book, but he describes them with such storytelling that it's fun to read and hard to put down!

Why should you buy it? 

This book was written in 1999, but surprisingly still completely relevant today. The examples are a bit dated, but since it's a conceptual book, the reader will get a good basic introduction to the concept behind opt-in email and direct response marketing.

I recommend this book to beginners with no experience with direct marketing or opt-in email marketing knowledge. Although very well written and in a very readable tone, experienced marketers or those with a basic knowledge of marketing will find the book a bit boring and repetitive. For more advanced readers, I suggest No B.S. Direct Marketing by Dan Kennedy.

I would give the book a higher rating as an introduction to direct marketing if it were edited down by about 1/3 its size due to repetition in the book otherwise it's a good book.

I enjoyed this book. It was an easy read at first and then became a little harder as the book progressed. The concepts in this book apply to business even today. It would be cool to see a new version of this book come out discussing permission marketing for social media and influencer marketing.

Ok, I've tried many tutorials and guidebooks in my day, but I have to say, this is one of the MOST detailed, awesome ones I've ever read. It tells you EXACTLY what to do. This book was packed with practical advice. The style was easy to read. The writers were honest about the mistakes they made so that you would not have to repeat them. There was a ton of info on how Etsy evaluates and ranks sellers.

I’ve been an Etsy seller for years and have been frustrated with the lack of sales. When I first started I thought that all I had to do was upload photos of my work with descriptions and I would get sales. It’s not that easy. So I decided to try to learn how I could improve my shop and increase my sales. The book is very informative and goes into every aspect of selling on Etsy. How to set up your shop, how search algorithms work, tips on what you should and should not do, etc. Right now I am in the middle of reading the book and following the suggestions for improvement. Don’t know if after all is said and done if I will sell more but the book itself is an interesting read into how the Etsy site works.
